The Most Overhyped Restaurants in Philadelphia

Updated: Apr 3, 2022

A fun fact about me is that I am full of hot takes.

I've spent the last seven years blogging about food all over Philadelphia. Throughout this time I've had some of the most fantastic dining experiences, and some that were mediocre at best.

These are some of the most overhyped restaurants in Philly (in my opinion), along with places I would recommend going to instead.

Parc

Perhaps my hottest of takes, Parc is extremely overrated. Sure, they have a very Instagram-worthy french onion soup, but if you really want great French food head over to The Royal Boucherie.

El Vez

This is straight up white peoples' version of Mexican food. Please, I'm begging you, go somewhere authentic. My personal favorite spot is Iztaccihuatl.

Sampan

I might be an outlier here, but I am not a fan of Sampan. Yes, the decor and lighting of the restaurant is cool, but the food is extremely meh. Chinatown is less than a mile away and has amazing Asian food. Check out Dim Sum Garden instead.

Kpod

The only redeeming quality about Kpod is the actual pods - which has nothing to do with the food. Dae Bak has the best Korean food in Philly - it's one of my all-time favorite restaurants.

Pat's and Geno's

I don't think this needs much explaining. These are tourist traps. Go to John's Roast Pork or Ishkabibbles for a cheesesteak.

*Note: If you go to Ishkabibbles you MUST order the cheese fries. They are out of this world.

The Love.

Overpriced and mediocre. For brunch, go to Honey's Sit 'N Eat instead. For dinner, go to Barbuzzo instead.
